A new remote should be good to go right out of the box. You mentioned your light could be 6+ years old… our first generation of Slow Glow G1 lights had the opposite remote control frequency commands, so there is a small chance the new remote buttons would be opposite their description. So the “auto” button would actually brighten the light to full intensity and the “full” button would put it into auto-mode. This only applies to lights more than 6 years old.
